The primary topic of conversation following the San Antonio Spurs’ defeat by the Golden State Warriors is NBA player Victor Wembanyama’s jersey.

During Friday’s 118-112 loss, astute spectators noticed that the French sensation’s name was misspelled on the back of his uniform.

The first overall choice in this year’s NBA draft was Wembanyama. The rookie star had his name spelled incorrectly during Friday's game against the Warriors

The 19-year-old, who is 7 feet 4 inches tall, has already displayed his potential with several striking performances.

The NBA world was made aware of a mistake on Wembanyama’s No. 1 jersey during the first quarter of Friday’s game at Chase Center.

An N appeared in place of the final M in Wemby’s name, making it read “Wembanyana” to fans.

Many took to social media to draw attention to the mistake. One user wrote on X: “Someone just lost his/her job.”

“How can this even happen?!” exclaimed a third.

A third said, “A misspelled Wemby jersey will go for millions.” “Like a misprint on a rare sports card.”

When the Spurs staff noticed the spelling error in the second quarter, they quickly had their rookie star change into a new top.

Wembanyama said, “It’s quite unfortunate. I’m not sure if anyone was let go, but the Spurs fulfilled their obligation by looking up my name and identifying it.

“But, I don’t know, it’s a real shame.”

Wemby finished with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in Friday’s loss.

However, he was powerless to save the Spurs from losing for the eleventh time in a row.

Gregg Popovich, the coach of San Antonio, gained notoriety earlier this week when he implored Spurs supporters to cease jeering former player Kawhi Leonard.

In response to the supporters’ taunting of Leonard at the free-throw line during the Spurs’ Wednesday loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, Popovich took to the microphone.

“Pardon me for just a moment,” he yelled. Please put an end to the jeers and let these guys play.

It’s not who we are, and it has no class. Put an end to the jeers.”
