Until tonight, LeBron James had never lost by such a large margin.
Monday night’s 138-94 thrashing by the 76ers was the highlight of a completely miserable evening for the Lakers.
Despite his downcast demeanor, James did manage to utter the following at his postgame media availability:
Today, we were annihilated from behind the arc. Despite our coverages, they managed to get shots. Recognize their efforts.
After that, fellow Laker Austin Reaves gave a very direct account of the defeat:
His team failed to make many three-pointers, he explained. They humiliated us severely. “I am not sure.”
When they suggested the Lakers had trouble with three-point shots, James and Reaves weren’t joking.
While Los Angeles made just seven threes (at 25% accuracy), Philadelphia hit 22 (at 47.8%).
At the same time, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham emphasized the importance of playing with greater passion and energy.
“Your level of competitiveness needs to be exceptional,” Ham stated. A certain level of bulletproofness is practically required. You must respond violently. They outworked us in terms of hustle.
The Lakers’ 10-8 record puts them in eighth place in the Western Conference.
Their next game is Wednesday in Detroit against the Pistons, so they’ll be back on the field.
