The Boston Celtics beat the Chicago Bulls 124–97 on Tuesday night in the final round of group play in the NBA In-Season Tournament. Jaylen Brown scored 30 points and Jayson Tatum had 21.
The Celtics made 21 3-pointers, which was the most of the season. Al Horford and Jrue Holiday each made four. Five of Boston’s players scored ten or more points.
Horford scored 16 points and grabbed 9 boards in the end. When Holiday came back after missing two games because of a sprained right ankle, he had 14 points, nine assists, and seven boards.
The Celtics made it five straight losses for the Bulls. They got more boards than the Bulls (51 to 38) and made 52% of their shots (47 of 90).
The Celtics had the best record in the NBA going into the day, but they needed to win and score a lot of points to have a chance at making it to next week’s playoffs.
With a 3-1 record, the win tied the Celtics with Orlando for first place in Eastern Conference Group C. However, Boston needed points because it had none going into Tuesday, which was a key factor in the first tournament.
Chicago was led by DeMar DeRozan and Coby White, who both scored 19 points. Patrick Williams scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Bulls, but the Celtics were too good from outside to stop them.
Boston made 21 of 49 shots from beyond the hoop in the end. Before this, it had made 20 3-pointers against Indiana on November 1.
The Bulls, who have lost eight of their last nine games, got 10 points from Ayo Dosunmu.
It took 38 points from Boston in the second quarter for them to take a 69–50 lead. In the third, it kept rolling. Tatum scored two baskets and made a layup to help the Celtics get ahead 78–55.
In the first half, Chicago only turned the ball over three times. In the third, they turned it over three times, and the Celtics took advantage of every mistake to build a lead of up to 32 points.
With the difference in points in mind, Boston kept pushing. There was 8:52 left in the game and Tatum missed a long jumper. But Sam Hauser was there to slam back the rebound and give his team a 104-75 lead.
