Steph Curry detailed the entire collapse as he saw it.
The Warriors from Golden State appeared to be well ahead of the Kings from Sacramento. They appeared to be a squad ready to advance to the In-Season Tournament’s knockout round. But they instead let a 24-point advantage slip away, and then they mysteriously let a 5-point lead slip away in the last minute.
The Warriors’ final-minute collapse in their loss to the Sacramento Kings exemplified their problems all season. Despite a fantastic first quarter against the Kings, the squad has struggled to put together a whole half of basketball.
When asked about the team’s failure to hold a 24-point lead, Steph Curry provided an in-depth account of the situation from his point of view following the game.
“Our first half was pretty solid, probably the best basketball we’ve played on both sides of the floor,” Curry told reporters. Just got rolling and had a couple of costly turnovers to dampen the excitement. Then they went to the foul line 42 times, which meant they could score easily, but even if they missed or made, they could still set up their defense. They were beginning to blitz nearly everywhere, we had some decent looks, and they could have allowed us some space, but things didn’t work out that way. Finally, the league comes down to a make-or-miss situation. I had one turnover and Draymond had the other. It’s not easy. Unforgiving manner to depart. We did rather well when all of those factors were considered. We simply lost power in the final moments.
The Golden State Warriors indeed appear to be playing their best basketball of the season in the first half, as Steph Curry correctly pointed out. It appeared as though the long-awaited wake-up call had finally arrived. It was senseless to let a five-point lead slip away in the last second, even though they blew a twenty-four-point lead. We don’t know what will happen to this squad if that doesn’t wake them up.
