The Warriors suffered a 124-123 loss in Sacramento on Tuesday night as a result of injuries to guards Chris Paul and Gary Payton II. In the In-Season Tournament, Klay Thompson led the team with 22 points, including ten straight in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to overcome a 24-point deficit and move past Group C. Another forward, Andrew Wiggins, was unable to play after hitting his right index finger on a car door earlier on Thursday.

Golden State established an 18-point advantage in the first half of the game and held onto it even in the closing minutes when Paul George was playing well. With 10 minutes and 41 seconds remaining, George’s jumper cut the Warriors’ advantage to 89-81. Thompson then took over, and with 4 minutes and 32 seconds remaining, James Harden’s 3-pointer pulled the Clippers to within five points.

The clubs will play one other again in Los Angeles this Saturday.

Curry eventually got off a shot with 4 minutes and 23 seconds remained in the first quarter. He made another long-range shot, fouled Russell Westbrook, and got into an argument the next possession, which resulted in his first-ever technical foul of the year. Elias reports that this was the two-time MVP’s 26th technical foul of the year and his first since the 2023–24 season’s fourth quarter against Memphis.

Draymond Green scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, and disheveled five assists in the team’s opening encounter of the season between the California rivals. The last six home games have been won by the Warriors. The Clippers haven’t won in the Bay Area since a 108-101 victory on January 6, 2021.

Paul missed the season’s first game because of a nerve ailment in his lower left leg, while Payton missed five games because of a strained right calf. He has a reevaluation scheduled for next week. MRI examinations for both athletes did not show any structural problems.

The Warriors picked the date 11/30/23 as a fun tribute to the jersey numbers of Curry, Green, and Thompson. During the press meeting, a painting with the three stars was situated behind the podium.

Coach Steve Kerr said, glancing at the beautiful artwork he saw, “I’ll be eternally grateful to these guys, forever.” I was fortunate enough to get my first NBA coaching position for ten years, working with these guys. It’s not like that very often, you know. We have not only succeeded, but our relationships with all three of them have been priceless, and for that, I am sincerely appreciative. I love you all three very much; the last ten years have been amazing, and it always amazes me that we are still together.
