Lakers Triumph Over Houston as Injured Trio Makes Impactful Return

With the addition of three key players—the returning Jarred Vanderbilt, the rising Cam Reddish, and the dynamic Jaxson Hayes—the Lakers are beginning to come together as a team.

Reddish missed four of the previous five games due to groin soreness, Hayes missed the most recent game due to left elbow soreness, and Vanderbilt missed the beginning of the season while healing from a left heel injury he sustained in the first preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 7.

Even with all three players returning, Saturday night’s 107-97 Lakers victory over the Rockets at Crypto.com Arena was still mostly overshadowed by another highlight reel performance by the incomparable LeBron James.

In the second quarter, James—now 38 years old and playing in his 21st season—wowed the audience with a spectacular move. He spun around Tari Eason at the baseline and then made a full 360-degree turn to layup the ball.

The bench Lakers were so enthralled by the scene that they were shouting, staring, and bobbing their heads. In addition, Christian Wood was assessed a technical foul for celebrating by stepping on the floor.

Upon finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds, James expressed his happiness at being able to bring the game home. Fans were very into it. Both the audience and our bench joined in. Presented us with a technical, but we’ll accept it. That one will do.

Despite playing their sixth game in as many days, the Lakers continued to dominate.

For starters, Anthony Davis had his 17th double-double of the season with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks. Austin Reaves contributed 15 of his 18 points in the second half, and LeBron James chipped in with 16 points, seven assists, and four boards.

Even though he had two opportunities, Vanderbilt was unable to score in 14 minutes of play. Four boards were his to start with. In 24 minutes of play, Reddish scored 11 points and grabbed 5 boards; Hayes scored 2 points, one of which was a lob dunk off a James pass.

Although he was cleared to play, the Lakers exercised caution with forward Rui Hachimura following his recent nose surgery and decided not to employ him.

Despite the Lakers’ 19-point lead, the game became more competitive in the fourth quarter.

It all started when the Lakers’ forward fouled the Rockets’ forward, Reddish, and the two got into an altercation. A technical foul was given to Reddish, and Eason was then redirected after approaching Reddish.

A verbal altercation ensued between James and Rockets coach Ima Udoka, leading to technical fouls for both parties. Udoka was sent off for his second foul of the match.
