At the tender age of nine, Riley Morrison is already making waves in the world of female athletics. The little girl expressed her dissatisfaction with the absence of girls’ sizes in Stephen Curry’s Under Armour kids’ basketball footwear in a November letter she wrote to the three-time NBA champion. In addition to Steph’s response to Riley’s letter outlining his plans to “fix the issue,” the two collaborated on the design of a special basketball sneaker to celebrate International Women’s Day. Riley (Steph’s oldest daughter shares her name with the Golden State Warriors player) and Steph were there to reveal the new sneakers on March 7, the day before they were released.

Riley collaborated with Steph to develop the sockliner for the purple UA ICON Curry 6 United We Win shoe. Motivating sayings such as “Girls Hoop Too,” “Play With Heart,” “Girl Power,” and many more can be seen on the jersey’s inside. Riley is making such a difference for equality in athletics at such a young age; it’s remarkable.

“I was immediately impressed when I saw Riley’s letter; that a 9-year-old girl had the courage to use her voice to call attention to an issue and keep us accountable,” added Steph. She wasn’t thinking about herself at all; she wanted the same opportunities for other girls. Not only for my product, but for the entire Under Armour line, she has been a phenomenal change agent. Her wisdom beyond her years, and she is an inspiration.

“That will go to a young woman from the Oakland area pursuing an education in a STEM-related field.” The brand said that the scholarship will be funded by the Curry Family Foundation and Under Armour, and it will be named after the United We Win sneakers.
