For Denver, rookie Julian Strawther made six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 22 points. Aaron Gordon finished with 12 rebounds and 18 points.

Halfway through the first quarter, Murray went off the court after rolling his left ankle. Murray returned despite already having an injured right ankle and ended up scoring nine rebounds for Denver.

Trae Young of the Hawks scored 19 points and was disqualified with 25 seconds left in the third quarter after receiving two technical fouls. Young was angry because Peyton Watson got in the way of his drive without calling a foul. While arguing the no-call, Hawks coach Quin Snyder was also given a technical foul call.

The two-time MVP, Nikola Jokic, shot 9 of 13 from the field after making only 18 of 58 shots in his previous two games. He contributed eight assists and eight rebounds.

Due to a fractured left wrist, Hawks forward Jalen Johnson missed his seventh straight game. De’Andre Hunter, another starting forward, was out due to right quad pain. Hunter was replaced by Garrison Mathews, who made his first start of the year.

Mathews and the other players would “try to accomplish what we want to get done, maybe in a different way,” according to Snyder, prior to the game.
