Warriors’ Rollercoaster: Draymond Green Ejected as Collapse Against Phoenix Suns Adds to Woes

Losing 119-116 to the Suns of Phoenix appeared to be the 13th loss for the Warriors this season.

On Tuesday night at Footprint Center, the Suns, who were missing Kevin Durant, stormed the court, sunk the Warriors into the muck in the fourth quarter, and then promptly followed that up with Draymond Green’s third ejection of the season.

In the last nine seconds of the game, the Warriors had an opportunity to tie the score, but Steph Curry missed a fadeaway three-pointer. The Warriors’ season record drops to 10-13 as they continue to fall below.500.

A glimmer of hope emerged. Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Dario Saric, Jonathan Kuminga, and Brandin Podziemski were the players that started the 15-2 run that started the second quarter. After halftime, the starters came off the bench and Suns’ Devin Booker checked back in as well, the margin was cut to three points.

Notably, instead of starting the second half with his regular starting five, Kerr substituted Podziemski and Kuminga for Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney, respectively. Midway through the third quarter, Green was flagrantly fouled and ejected for wildly swiping his arm at Jusuf Nurkic, further complicating the rotation changes.

Without Green, everything fell apart. Curry had a career-high 24 points despite having a poor shooting night, going 4-for-15 from outside the arc. Although he only played 15 minutes, Andrew Wiggins was minus-19.
