It was a long time before Steph Curry and Chet Holmgren crossed paths on a basketball floor, but Friday night’s game was their first encounter in an NBA game.
Chet Holmgren and Steph Curry both recall the day, many years ago, when they crossed paths at their respective camps.
“That year or the year prior, he crossed me up at my own camp,” Curry remembered. “Watching him now is exciting; I remember when he was just starting out, he had a tough injury, but he’s back and healthy and playing well now.”
A sense of completeness washed over Holmgren as she faced Steph Curry in competition. Holmgren had a fantastic experience regardless of his loss.
Holmgren was asked about his first encounter with him in the NBA. He mentioned it earlier, but there are excellent players in that league, and he is one of them. His location should be on high alert at all times. I suppose you could say it’s a good first full-circle moment, going to his camp all those years ago and now being in the same league as him and competing.
Wednesday night was the first time Chet Holmgren and Steph Curry played each other, but it will most definitely not be the last. This month, the clubs will meet twice more. I’m crossing my fingers that tonight’s games will be the benchmark.
