Phoenix Suns’ Big 3 Debut: Durant, Booker, and Beal Join Forces, Yet Fall Short Against Brooklyn Nets as Bridges and Johnson Haunt Their Former Team

On Wednesday night, the Suns’ Big 3—Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant—made their debut together, but the Nets spoiled the introduction with a 116-112 victory on Phoenix’s home court.

Last winter, Durant’s tenure in Brooklyn came to a sudden end when he was moved to Phoenix along with Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson.

Johnson enjoyed his comeback to Arizona and scored 15 points, while Bridges scored 21.

Spencer Dinwiddie scored 16 points and Cam Thomas scored 24 to lead all Nets scorers.

Durant, Booker, and Beal of the Phoenix Suns all played on the same night for the first time this season in game 24.

Injuries, including Beal’s aching back that has kept him out of action for five games this season, delayed the trio’s debut.

Along with his 12 assists, Booker poured in 34 points, Durant chipped in 27, and Beal chipped in 14.

But Durant lost to his old team the Nets as Brooklyn notched a win on the road in Phoenix

The game-high 22 boards were matched by Jusuf Nurkic, who added 15 points.

The Suns were down eight points at halftime, but they came back to take a four-point lead (88-86).

The final quarter was just as close as the first, but the Nets grabbed the lead with 10 minutes to go and never relinquished it.

As time expired, the Nets took a 112-106 lead thanks to a three by Spencer Dinwiddie. He went on to score 16 points, including a layup on the team’s ensuing offensive possession.

With 28 seconds remaining, the Suns were able to pull within 114–112, but Thomas sealed the deal with two free throws in the last three seconds. Thomas put in ten points in the fourth quarter.

Prior to the game, a tribute film was shown honoring Bridges and Johnson. Following the victory, they embraced former teammate Booker.
