The Connecticut Sun said in a news release on Thursday that their home game in August 2019 will be at TD Garden in Boston.
With this game on August 20, Boston will have hosted its first WNBA game.
Sun officials and All-Star Brionna Jones were in Boston before the Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game on Thursday.
Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the Sun, said, “The Sun is New England’s professional women’s basketball team, and we have passionate fans all over the region.” It made sense to hold our game in Boston, which has a long history of success in New England sports.
They wanted to give thousands of kids and their families a chance to learn about the Connecticut Sun brand and give young girls a real chance to see the famous TD Garden in Boston and dream of playing there one day.
The Connecticut Sun are thrilled to have the chance to play in Boston at the TD Garden for the first WNBA regular season game. Darius Taylor, the general manager of the Suns, said that people in the Boston area and the rest of New England have a long history of being sports fans and a strong love for the game.
The Sun have only played one home game in Connecticut, in Hartford in 2003, their first season in the state. This will be their first game outside of Connecticut.
Hayes, a former WNBA player: Tiffany Hayes, a former star for UConn, said she was leaving the WNBA on her show.
It took her ten years of WNBA play to sign with the Sun. Before that, she played for the Atlanta Dream.
At the end of the regular season, Hayes had averaged 12.1 points, 3.0 boards, and 2.6 assists per game for the Huskies. Hayes made 10 or more points in 14 straight games from August 1st to September 8th, 2023, which is 28% of the 40 games he played in during the regular season. On September 26, in the second game of the WNBA semifinals against New York, she scored 30 points, which was also the most points she had ever scored in a playoff game.
Stephanie White, the Sun’s head coach, said that her team was thankful for having Tip on the team this season. “She is unmatched as a competitor and a worker.” She plays both ends of the game and never lets down her guard. She is passionate and fierce. I said it throughout the whole season.
It’s one of the few times in league history that a player has been able to go backward and beat an opponent. To put it simply, she is unique. White told Tip how much he admired her great work and wished her the best in everything she does from now on.
It was in 2012 that Hayes was named to the WNBA All-Rookie team. In 2018, she was named to the WNBA All-Defensive second team, the All-WNBA first team, and the WNBA All-Star team.
Hayes is no longer at home because he is in China playing for the Shanghai Swordfish in the WBCA. 24.6% of her shots are made, 8.5% are blocked, and 3.0% are stolen each game.
