In 2022, Chris talked about how his father Charles influenced the way he approached parenting. He talked on how Charles urged him to give his kids “the most amount of love that you could show,” and how much he still cherishes his father’s praise.

The point guard was inspired by his father to write Basketball Dreams, his second children’s book, in 2022. Afterwards, he uploaded pictures of him and his son reading the book. The author states, “Papa Chilly inspired me at an early age with lessons I’ve carried all my life.” I’d prefer to give those to someone else right now. When Chris and his children modeled for Bloomingdale’s on Father’s Day in 2017, they talked about how much they loved large family dinners. He echoed the advise he would have offered himself as a new father when he remarked, “Enjoy the little moments and take more pictures.” We take tons of pictures at every family get-together.

Christopher, 14, and Pope John Paul II

Chris Jr. would often go with his father to news appearances even as a small child. In 2012, Chris recorded an NBA game in which Los Angeles Clippers player Blake Griffin performs “The Blake Face,” while his son sat on his lap. Chris Jr., who is two years old, played a happy impersonation of Griffin’s strict demeanor during the middle portion of the game.

As Chris Jr. approaches adolescence, he is continuing his father’s legacy. In 2020, Chris told PEOPLE that he was spending quality time with his family at home while mentoring his younger brother, Chris Jr., to improve as a basketball player. For my child, this is a great cool game. He was enthralled with it. “I’ve never had the chance to train him myself, but this quarantine has also given me the ability to do that.”
