Curry’s Magic: Warriors Triumph Over Nets with a 124-120 Victory

The Golden State Warriors defeated the visiting Brooklyn Nets 124-120 on Saturday night as Stephen Curry saved 16 of his team-high 37 points for the fourth quarter and Klay Thompson drained a pair of late 3-pointers.

For the Warriors, who snapped a three-game losing streak, Thompson finished with 24 points, while four more players scored in double figures.

On a five-game trip, the Nets lost for the third time in four games despite having two chances to either tie or lead in the last 1:28 of the game thanks to a game-high 41 points by Cam Thomas.

The Warriors had an 18-point advantage at one point in the first half, but the Nets rallied to take a 99-97 lead through a Mikal Bridges three-pointer in the first fifteen minutes of the second half.

When Curry took over the game, the Warriors were behind 103-102 in just under seven minutes. He led the Golden State team to a 114-106 lead with 12 straight points, scoring five of those baskets—two of which were 3-pointers—in a row.

Then, Thompson replaced Curry and scored his first two 3-pointers, the latter of which gave the team a 120-115 lead with 2:54 remaining before Brooklyn mounted a comeback.

With 2:14 left, a 3-pointer by Royce O’Neale brought the score down to two points. Before Spencer Dinwiddie missed a 3-point shot that would have given Brooklyn a 1:28 lead, the Nets committed a turnover with a chance to tie.

With 17.1 seconds remaining, Curry finished the game with an interior basket to seal the victory. After Curry and Nic Claxton exchanged baskets, the Nets had one more opportunity to tie the game, but Bridges was unable to finish a driving layup.

Curry scored 17 of the Warriors’ 32 3-pointers, going 14 for 22 overall and 6 for 8 from beyond the arc.

For the Warriors, double-figure scorers Andrew Wiggins (14), Jonathan Kuminga (10), Dario Saric (12), and Brandin Podziemski (19) also scored. Chris Paul contributed a team-high 11 assists, while Kevon Looney pulled down seven rebounds.

Thomas shot 15 for 24 overall and 5 for 13 from three, missing his career-high by six points.

Bridges finished with eighteen points, Cam Johnson with thirteen, and O’Neale with eleven. For the Nets, Claxton (19 points, a game-high twelve rebounds) and Dinwiddie (16 points, a game-high fourteen assists) recorded double-doubles.
