Giannis Antetokounmpo says he would prefer to concentrate on the process over breaking records.
Giannis knows what’s important.
After shattering Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 7,161 rebounds, Giannis Antetokounmpo enhanced his résumé by setting another team record. The Bucks star claims that despite his success, he would prefer to concentrate on the process rather than become fixated on certain records.
Only wants to play as well as possible.
Even though Giannis’ name is already emblazoned in Milwaukee Bucks history, he maintains that winning NBA titles with the team and improving as a player are his top priorities.
“I’ll be very honest with you. Sometimes, you get caught in this world of records, the social media, this guy did this, you’re doing this, and the rankings and all that. I feel like when I try to do that, I am not the best basketball player I can be. I am not the best teammate I can be. I am not the best person I can be,” Antetokounmpo explained regarding his approach to personal accomplishments.
Focus on the details of the journey
Not that Giannis doesn’t value records—he has worked hard to go from being a raw kid from Greece to become one of the greatest players of all time in the NBA. He claims that focusing on all those records that haven’t been broken diverts his attention from the things that are more important, so he decides against doing so.

“Now, do I think that I might rank in the top 10 in scoring down the road? Perhaps, indeed. or when rebounding? Perhaps, indeed. I’m not sure what lies ahead for me, but at the end of the day, I make an effort to concentrate as much as I can on the journey because, once you start focusing on all those little things, they will consume you. They’re going to devour you whole,” Giannis said.
