Known for his passion for animals, Russell revealed in an interview with ESPN that he has been going to the refuge for a number of years and has developed a strong relationship with the tigers. Furthermore, he underlined that the tigers are accustomed to being near people because they are well-trained and have grown up in confinement.

Russell’s efforts have drawn criticism from certain animal rights advocates, who contend that it is reckless to encourage people to believe that swimming with wild animals is safe.
