At 4:17 in the third quarter, Los Angeles Lakers star centre Anthony Davis had to leave the team’s current road game against the Chicago Bulls due to an awkward landing beneath the basket that resulted in a rolled ankle.
As the third frame nears its conclusion, the Lakers trail Chicago 84-75.
As of right now, in 26:55, Davis has scored 14 points on 5 of 12 shots from the field and 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, along with 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a steal.
It’s not like the frequently injured superstar is unfamiliar with a terrifying mid-game injury.
Your friendly Bulls Blogger, my former boss at Blog-A-Bull, sarcastically refers to the Chicago native Anthony Davis as “Day-To-Day” Davis. The 6’10” big man has missed a lot of games over the past few seasons—basically ever since Los Angeles won the championship in 2020—but this season he has been mostly healthy.
To be honest, it seems like The Brow injures himself about half the time he lands. However, the Kentucky product has generally been able to plod through whatever the issue is, at least this year. Even today, with what was described as a left ankle sprain/bone bruise, he was a game-time decision. Remarkably, the 30-year-old has only missed one game due to an injury this season—a blowout loss to the struggling San Antonio Spurs a week ago today.
In an attempt to make his first All-Star squad in three years, Davis is averaging 24.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, and three assists per game this season on a shooting split of.549/.368/820 (despite seldom making any threes). For “Day-To-Day” Davis, not too bad. Of course, a prolonged absence might make such an appearance impossible.
