This season, the third quarter hasn’t always been good for Boston. That wasn’t true in Sacramento on Wednesday night.
The Celtics and the third quarter became fast friends right away on this night. Boston went on a 22-5 run over four minutes and a half to take full control of the game. From there, it was easy for the C’s to win as they went up 96–72 in the middle of the quarter.
Share the ball and Kristaps Porzingis were two important parts of this run. Porzingis scored the first five points of the run, and he scored nine of the team’s 22 points in total. During that run, Boston also made seven of its eight field goals with help, with Derrick White setting up four of them.
Boston’s lead stayed at 20 points or more for the rest of the game, and they won their 21st game of the season, which is the most in the league.
The amazing run of great two-way basketball by key player Jaylen Brown continued Wednesday night in Sacramento. While putting together another balanced game in another Celtics win, he was an unbeatable force.
Brown scored 28 points, which tied Derrick White for the team lead. Along with his five boards, he also passed the ball six times and didn’t turn the ball over once. Brown made 11 out of the 21 field goals he tried.
He also did all of that in just 29 minutes of play.
We should point out that Brown is playing at a beautiful speed. He’s getting better at the game and it seems to have slowed down for him. The other team hasn’t been able to speed him up. It’s almost as beautiful to watch as his five dunks on Wednesday night.
