Warriors Dominate Wizards, Led by Jordan Poole’s Standout Performance

After receiving a nice reception before the game, Jordan Poole responded with a team-high 25 points in his return to San Francisco. However, Stephen Curry answered with 30 points, and rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis recorded his second consecutive double-double. As a result, the Golden State Warriors easily defeated the visiting Washington Wizards, 129-118 on Friday, December 22 (Saturday, December 23, Manila time).

This was the first encounter since Poole, who helped Golden State win the 2022 title before being hit by Draymond Green in the previous preseason, was traded by the Warriors to the Wizards in July in exchange for Chris Paul.

Poole shot 7-for-21 overall and 3-for-12 from 3-point range, which has been his typical performance this season. However, he was able to use eight free throws as the basis for his sixth game of the season with 25 or more points.

The Warriors were helped by Paul’s four points, seven rebounds, and a game-high ten assists. The Warriors also benefited by the Wizards playing the second night of a back-to-back at the conclusion of a four-game Western tour.

Poole’s three-pointer with 4.5 seconds left in the first half gave the Wizards, who defeated Portland 118-117 on Thursday, a lead at halftime of 63-61.

But in the first two minutes of the third quarter, Curry made two three-pointers; he then made two more in the following five minutes, giving Golden State the lead and winning four games in a row.

In 27 minutes, Curry shot 8 of 13 from three-point range and 9 of 18 overall for the Warriors, who were playing the first leg of a back-to-back. On Saturday, the team will host Portland again.

In addition, Klay Thompson scored 20 points on four three-pointers, while Jackson-Davis finished with 10 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Jonathan Kuminga added 22 points on 9 of 11 shooting.

For the Warriors, who hadn’t lost at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder 128-109 on November 16, they hadn’t had a game decided by more than eight points in over a month. Dario Saric (13) and Brandin Podziemski (10) also scored in double figures.
