After beating the Clippers 145–108, the Celtics were the better team the whole game. Boston made a scorching 47.2% of its three-point shots, had 33 assists, and had 60 rebounds to Los Angeles’ 39. These are all signs that the Celtics will win.
After sitting out Wednesday’s game against the Kings because of a sprained left ankle, Jayson Tatum led the way with good shooting. In just three-quarters of play, he scored 30 points on 9/16 shooting and made 5 of 10 three-point shots. In the second quarter, he hurt his ankle, but he stayed in and seemed fine. Jaylen Brown kept up his good offensive play and scored 24 points (9/17 FG), grabbed 6 rebounds, and gave out 2 assists. Brown was very important early in the third quarter. He scored 7 straight points to help the team go from trailing 17–17 at halftime to leading 25–25.
From that point on, the Celtics never looked back. They kept a 20-point lead for the rest of the night. Six guys scored more than 10 points, so it was a good team effort all around.
As the first big player off the bench, Neemias Queta had another good game. In 23 minutes, he scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the week.
Jrue Holiday also played well on both ends of the court. It was his second straight game with 20 or more points; he shot 8-12 from the field and had a team-high seven assists and six boards.
Another great game for Oshae Brissett. He made 3 of 4 three-pointers and scored 12 points in 18 minutes. For the first time in Celtics history, they scored more than 140 points in back-to-back games. Derrick White scored 18 points in a quiet game, and Al Horford added 6 points, 7 boards, and 5 assists.
The Clippers couldn’t stop the Celtics from hitting well all night. Paul George scored 12 points in the first quarter, but he only scored 21 points overall and didn’t make a big difference in the second half.
Drew Peterson played his first game with the Celtics and scored his first points. JD Davison also got some runs. The last group of players, which included those two guys, Lamar Stevens, Oshae Brissett, and Dalano Banton, kept the lead going until the very end.
It was the Celtics’ 12th game without Kristaps Porzingis this season. He missed this one because he sprained his ankle on Wednesday in Sacramento. They are 14-1 when Porzingis is on the court, but 8-5 after tonight without him.
