The New York Knicks upset the Milwaukee Bucks to start the NBA’s Christmas schedule on December 25, but Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic stole the show in the Denver Nuggets’ 120-114 triumph over Golden State.
The defending champion Nuggets extended their winning streak to five games behind 28 points from Murray and 18 free throws from two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic, who overcame a bad shooting day.
In a back-and-forth game between the teams who won the previous two NBA titles, Jokic finished with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists despite making only four of his 12 field goals.
The Nuggets took a 118-112 lead with 34.2 seconds remaining after Jokic’s long-range shot with 5 minutes and 16 seconds remaining put them ahead for good.
The Warriors have won five straight games going into the match. Though he only scored four points in the first half and finished with a total of eighteen points on seven of twenty-one shots, their star player, Stephen Curry, had a miserable game.
In addition to dishing out four assists, he shot three times out of thirteen.
With a team-high 22 points off the bench, Canadian Andrew Wiggins helped the Warriors stay in the game. However, in the end, Murray and Jokic—who helped the Nuggets win their first championship last season—proved to be too strong.
