The Dallas Mavericks defeated Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, 132-122, thanks in large part to Luka Doncic’s excellent all-around performance.
Doncic made 14 of his 29 shots from the field, finishing with 39 points and 10 assists. In addition, he recorded a steal and a block, demonstrating some growth on the defensive glass. Now, in fifteen of his previous sixteen games, Doncic has scored at least thirty points.
With a game-high twelve points and fourteen rebounds, rookie centre Dereck Lively scored his sixth double-double of his career. Josh Green, the backup guard, finished with 18 points in just 25 minutes of play, leading all bench players.
NBA fans were especially impressed with Doncic, who has improved his play even more without Kyrie Irving.
With just under three minutes left in the game, the Warriors were able to reduce the lead to five points, but the Mavericks eventually pulled away to win.
Although Klay Thompson had a poor shooting night, Stephen Curry finished with a team-high 25 points and made six of his 15 three-point tries. This ultimately harmed the team’s chances of rallying. Thompson made just one of his eleven shots, but still managed to score three points. Nevertheless, Curry made a few of his trademark pull-up threes and competed well against Doncic one-on-one.
After the victory, Golden State dropped to 15-17 while the Mavericks improved to 19-14. Now, the Warriors have dropped their last three games.
