On Saturday, the Dallas Mavericks defeated Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors 132-122 thanks to Luka Doncic’s outstanding all-around performance.
Doncic made 14 of his 29 shots, scoring 39 points and dishing out 10 assists. He demonstrated some growth on the defensive end of the court by adding a steal and a block. In 15 of his last 16 games, Doncic has now scored at least 30 points.
With 12 points and 14 rebounds, rookie centre Dereck Lively scored his sixth career double-double. With 18 points in just 25 minutes of play, backup guard Josh Green led all bench players.
NBA fans have been astonished by Doncic in particular, as he has improved his play even more without Kyrie Irving.
After less than three minutes remained in the game, the Mavericks drew away to win, but the Warriors were still able to reduce the gap to five points.
Despite Klay Thompson’s poor shooting performance, which ultimately hampered the team’s hopes of rallying, Stephen Curry led the team with 25 points and made six of his 15 three-point tries. Despite making only one of his eleven shots, Thompson scored three points. Nevertheless, Curry connected on many of his trademark pull-up threes and held Doncic at bay in a couple of one-on-one situations.
After the victory, the Mavericks improved to 19-14 while Golden State dropped to 15-17. It has now been three games without a win for the Warriors.
