Giannis Antetokounmpo, star player for the Milwaukee Bucks, returned to Greece to witness her mother’s official Greek citizenship.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, a great player for the Milwaukee Bucks, recently travelled to Greece to parade the NBA championship trophy across several locations. But now he’s seen a much bigger turning point in his native nation.
Giannis went to Greece to witness firsthand her mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo, being granted Greek citizenship. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brother Alex was granted the same advantage. The event was held at the official mansion of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Athens native Giannis expressed his sincere gratitude for the opportunity and that he wouldn’t miss it for the world (via Associated Press).
“We’ve always felt Greek, but we’re happy now that we have an official stamp.” My mother and Alex are now citizens of Greece.
Both of Giannis’ parents immigrated from Nigeria. This made it challenging to find employment in Greece. Giannis and his brothers turned to selling phoney watches, sunglasses, and other goods on the streets in order to support their family. But the Bucks forward’s natural athleticism turned their fortunes around.
After receiving Greek citizenship in 2013, Giannis was able to travel to the US and begin his NBA career. During his colourful career, his mother has paid him countless visits, notably at the occasions he collected his two MVP trophies and other significant events.
Greece will always be home to the Greek Freak since he has never forgotten his origins. Seeing his mother accomplish a lifelong goal should just heighten the specialness.
Giannis Anteotkounmpo may even become more motivated in the upcoming season and lead the Bucks to a second consecutive championship with the newest addition to their family.
