Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic is the undisputed best player in the world right now, but the conversation gets a lot of difficult after that.
When asked on the latest episode of Michael Porter Jr.’s “Curious Mike” podcast for his top-5 players in the league after himself, Jokic began with Joel Embiid, Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant.
“I think I’m gonna say, Joel, Luka – you have to put KD and LeBron there. Even though they are a little bit older, I think they can still perform,” Jokic pointed out.
While these were the first four names Jokic mentioned, he ultimately admitted it’s too difficult to rank players with how much talent is in the league, also mentioning Steph Curry, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Jokic added: “Steph… and then you have Tatum, Ant [Anthony Edwards], Giannis. I think it’s really impossible to say,”
“I think you maybe like some player over some other player, like you like his game or whatever. But I think it’s really hard to put that top-5 or even top-10, to be honest.”
This point by Jokic is one that does not get brought up enough. With the gap between so many of the league’s stars being so small, it often just comes down to what a person prefers or enjoys most in a player’s game.
This also shows how good of a place the NBA is in, because while there are a group of names that belong in this discussion, they are all so elite that it is almost impossible to rank them in a top-5 or top-10 list.
