Tuesday night’s 121-115 victory over the Orlando Magic helped the Golden State Warriors end a three-game losing run. Stephen Curry led the team in scoring with 36 points and made clutch plays in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors also had 15 points from Klay Thompson and 19 from Jonathan Kuminga.
For the Warriors, Klay Thompson scored 15 points, while Jonathan Kuminga added 19.
For Orlando, Paolo Banchero finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and Franz Wagner added 25 points. On a four-game road trip, the Magic have dropped their opening two games.
Midway through the third quarter, Curry scored two 3-pointers and assisted on two more baskets, helping the Warriors establish a slim lead that the Magic were able to whittle away when he took a second-half break.
But after coming back with 8:33 remaining, Curry seized over in the closing moments. After scoring during a drive to put Golden State ahead 101-97, he made a step-back 3-pointer to make it 104-97 on the following possession.
With 2:29 remaining, Curry assisted on consecutive baskets by Thompson and Kuminga to increase the lead to 110-101, and the Warriors managed to hold on from there.
Curry’s four-point shot with 3.5 seconds left gave Golden State a 55-52 lead, capping an exciting first half. Orlando tied the score with a three-pointer made by Gary Harris at the buzzer.
Due to forward Draymond Green’s indefinite ban for striking Phoenix center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, the Warriors have improved to 9-9 this season without him. Although he hasn’t seen Green in the team facilities and doesn’t know when he might return, coach Steve Kerr stated prior to the game that he has been messaging with Green.
“He’s been giving us our space, and we’ve been giving him ours,” Kerr remarked.
After suffering a hamstring injury late in the third quarter and missing time, Gary Payton II was another important player lost for the Warriors.
