OKC put an end to our six-game win streak Tuesday night despite 30-plus points apiece from KP and JT

On Tuesday night, the Boston Celtics almost made a huge comeback in the fourth quarter. In less than six minutes, they cut Oklahoma City’s 18-point lead to two points. The Thunder beat the C’s 127–123 at Paycom Center, though, so they couldn’t quite catch up.

The end was very exciting, but the most important part was when OKC built an unbeatable lead in the third quarter.

The Thunder passed the C’s in the first 40 seconds of the third quarter and never looked back. Boston went into the break ahead 61–58.

In the third, OKC had two big runs: an 8-0 stretch to start the period and a 22-14 run to end it.

During the frame, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey were unbeatable. They scored 27 points more than Boston, made 11 of 14 field goal attempts, and dished out seven assists.

In that quarter, the Thunder scored 40 points while the Celtics scored 23. This was very different from Sunday night when Boston led San Antonio 40–23 in the third quarter.

Boston’s six-game win streak came to an end when OKC found a way to beat them.

Tuesday night, star player Jayson Tatum was only two assists away from a huge triple-double. He scored 30 points, grabbed 13 boards, and passed the ball eight times, which were all game-highs.

What the wing did best was drive to the basket, which won him 10 trips to the free-throw line. He also did well on the offensive glass, where he got five of his 13 points.

Tatum has been putting up a lot of these well-rounded stat lines lately. He had been nominated for East Player of the Week because he averaged 27.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game from Dec. 25–31. This was revealed before the game.

He’s going to keep doing that in the new year.
