Despite Damian Lillard’s absence, Giannis Antetokounmpo continued his ‘powerful’ efforts in the Bucks’ loss to the Jazz with a score of 116-132, managing a triple-double

During their 1-2 road trip, the Milwaukee Bucks encountered some turbulence before returning home.

The Bucks trailed by 33 points at the half, which infuriated the Fiserv Forum crowd, which jeered the squad.

“You have to play hard at the end of the day,” stated Antetokounmpo. It’s not about hitting or missing shots, in my opinion. It’s about putting in the work outside.

I believe that when you don’t, people sense it. I think our supporters are terrific, but if you don’t play hard, you can occasionally get jeered around the league when you wear a Bucks jersey—not just any jersey, but a Bucks jersey. I would have booed myself tonight, to put it mildly.”

“I believe it was merely how they were scoring,” stated Adrian Griffin, head coach of the Bucks. “Most of it was basically uncontested threes in which we had little interest in their physique. With their screening and our switches, it’s not physical enough.

“I think I aired more footage at halftime than I typically do. Only the places where we are able to react. As a coach, you know, you can come in and lose it sometimes. However, I also think you need to let them know what you still need to work on. And they gave a reply.”

The Jazz outscore the Bucks 77 points in the first half.

Utah had been dominating by then, leading 77-46 going into the locker room.

In the first half, Kelly Olynyk (10), Collin Sexton (11), Lauri Markkanen (11), Jason Collins (12), and Jordan Clarkson (12) were the five Jazz players with double-digit scores.

With 11 points, Antetokounmpo was the only member of the Bucks in double figures. Just six points were scored by Khris Middleton on 2-of-10 shooting.

It was clear after the game how frustrated they were.

“Definitely very frustrating,” Middleton remarked. “We only hoped that we would show up and react a little bit better. However, we didn’t tonight.”

In the second half, the Bucks put on some fight as Chris Livingston starts to play.

With a purpose, the Bucks emerged from the locker room, opening the third quarter with a 7-0 run that forced Jazz coach Will Hardy to call a timeout.

Milwaukee continued to reduce the significant imbalance. With 3:37 remaining in the third quarter, Griffin even sent in youngster Chris Livingston, who had played sparingly. Livingston’s basket trimmed the lead to 93-80. A minute later, he made another layup.

“I’ve been intrigued with his size, with his athleticism,” Griffin stated. “He plays the game with excellent feel. Throwing him in, I felt he was great; he played so hard in a game like that.

“He is capable of defending. He is able to recover. He’s able to wrap around the basket.”

Bobby Portis’ turnaround jumper made it 97-88 and brought the Bucks within one point.

With seven seconds remaining, though, Portis missed a jump shot, and Keyonte George ran the other way for a layup, giving the Jazz a 100-90 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Milwaukee kept moving closer, trimming the margin to seven points a few occasions in the fourth quarter, but Giannis Antetokounmpo was once again disappointed by the defeat.

With 5:26 left, Middleton’s three-pointer put the score at 115-108. Despite having a chilly start, he warmed up to finish with 23 points.

However, Kris Dunn’s jump shot and Simone Fontecchio’s three-pointer were the Jazz’s response. With 3:08 remaining, Markannen made a three-pointer, and supporters at Fiserv Forum began filing out.

“How many points did they score? 130? Got to get better, man.”

Lillard is out against the Jazz.

For Monday’s game, Damian Lillard was not wearing a uniform.

Lillard was classified by the Bucks as unavailable for Sunday night’s game due to personal reasons.

Lillard’s backup point guard, Cameron Payne, was also not in the game due to his concussion protocol. After taking a heavy fall in the third quarter and striking his head on the floor, Payne left Saturday’s game against the Rockets.

Lillard was replaced from the start by rookie Andre Jackson.
