Thursday night, the Phoenix Suns beat the Los Angeles Lakers 127–109. Devin Booker scored 31 points, and Bradley Beal scored 37 points, eight of which came from three-point shots.
Kevin Durant got 18 points to help the Suns beat the Lakers. It was their first win in five games against them. It was also Frank Vogel’s first win over his old team. Vogt coached the Lakers for three years. Bird took them to the NBA title in the Walt Disney World bubble in 2020.
Last month, the Lakers won the NBA In-Season Tournament. Since then, they’ve lost five straight games and are now 5-11. Russell scored 19 points after coming off the bench. Phoenix scored 28 points while Los Angeles turned the ball over 17 times. Seven different players scored 10 or more points.
Beal scored 20 points in the third quarter, and the Suns were ahead by 32 points early in the fourth. He missed one more 3-pointer that would have tied the Suns’ record for most in a single game, which was shared by six players.
LeBron James made 3 of 11 shots and scored 10 points. He also played 9 passes and grabbed 5 boards. Austin Reaves and Johnathan Williams both scored 13 points. After falling behind by 27 points in the third quarter, none of the three players played in the fourth.
The Lakers had won two games in a row, but now they were 19-20, which is less than 500.
Cam Reddish played in the first half, but not in the second because his knee hurt.
It was his 10th game this season with 30 or more points. He got 16 points in the first quarter, when the Suns were ahead by 11 points.
Before the Suns took over, James made a fadeaway that put the Lakers ahead 7-6. Phoenix went ahead by eight points in less than four minutes after Booker made a 19-foot jump shot to start an 11-2 run.
Before the end of the first quarter, Booker made another jump shot that put the Suns ahead 32–15. After that, the Lakers worked hard to close the gap to 36-25 at the end of the quarter.
LA kept getting better at the start of the second quarter. It was 40–34 after Jerod Vanderbilt’s 3-pointer, but they wouldn’t get any closer for the rest of the game. Phoenix scored seven straight points to answer, making it 10–2.
Josh Okogie did a drive dunk while Jaxson Hayes hit him to stop the run. Okogie made a free throw with 7:44 left in the first half to finish the three-point play and make it 50–36.
