The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night began at 5:30 p.m. PT, which is not often. These were the third games this season that these two sides played each other. The first two were won by the Mavericks.
Even though LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic were all dressed up, it felt like all the stars were there. In the end, it was the Lakers who won, 127–110, bringing them back to.500 at 21–21.
The big men started this game well. The first six points were scored by Dereck Lively II for Dallas. Davis scored the first point for Los Angeles with a dunk.
The game was tied at 10 when the Mavericks scored seven straight points to go ahead. That’s when Davis got better. He made two goals that kept his team in the game until James got better and gave them the lead again.
James and Davis were great at first, but Max Christie and Rui Hachimura made plays after coming off the bench. L.A. was ahead 32–26 at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, both teams went up and missed easy shots. In the end, Doncic did get going, and Austin Reaves scored five straight points for L.A. to make things easier on offense.
They came back strong at the end of the half and closed the gap to 55–53 before the break. Taurean Prince’s Flagrant 1 foul on Grant Williams made this happen.
At the start of the third quarter, James attacked and made a three-point play. Russell then scored five points in a row, and Davis made a layup to give the lead to ten points for the first time.
Russell then made another three-point shot, and Reaves hit Prince with an alley-oop while he was moving. This made the Lakers’ lead bigger. The lead was 22 points when James made his own three.
After that, Dallas scored eight straight points to answer, but Davis kept doing what he was doing on both ends, and L.A. led 97–80 going into the fourth and final quarter.
To get back into the game, the Mavericks would have had to make a run early in the fourth quarter. But that didn’t happen because Russell kept hitting from deep and made it 23–23 just two minutes into the fourth.
Last but not least, Dallas gave up early, which made it easy for L.A. to win.
