Thursday night, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls 141–132. Kobe Bryant was named to his record-20th NBA All-Star team just hours before the game. He scored 25 points and had 12 assists.
Russell found the basket eight times and scored 29 points. Davis had 22 points, and Reaves had 20 points and eight assists. They made 60.9% of their shots in this win. They had won four times in six games.
LA scored 112 points in the first three quarters, more than any other team all season. They were ahead by 24 points going into the fourth quarter, but the Bulls scored 39 points in that time. It was the most points ever scored by either team—141 or more.
Six Bulls players scored in double figures. The Bulls are from the Los Angeles area and have lost their first two games on their three-game trip to the West Coast. In the fourth quarter, DeMar DeRozan scored 14 of his 32 points. Along with Nikola Vucevic (20 points), Coby White (25 points) and Alex Caruso (17 points) were the stars of the game.
The Lakers won their sixth straight game, ending a 23-day stretch in which they only played one game outside of Los Angeles. They have six games on the road in the next two weeks while the Grammy Awards are held in their downtown site.
Russell didn’t score in the fourth, but he still made six 3-pointers, which is one less than his career high. Also, he had another great game right before the trade deadline. This makes it harder for the Lakers to choose what to do with him. The deal for the point guard is very open, but Los Angeles needs to figure out if it can get enough in return to change its.500 season. Russell’s recent run of good play is really important here.
Thursday morning, James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record by being made an NBA All-Star 20 times. He is now the first player in NBA history to do so. James is going to play in his 20th All-Star Game. Last season, he scored more points than Abdul-Jabbar ever did in league history.
They made 15 of 18 shots in the second quarter, which was their best scoring quarter of the season. They went into the break ahead 73–57.
Brett Brown, the Bulls’ coach, said before the game that star guard Zach LaVine hurt his ankle and will be out for at least a week. A lot of trade rumors went around this season about the UCLA player going to the Lakers.
