Upon observing Joel Embiid’s 70-point performance, Luka Dončić raised him three.
The point guard for the Dallas Mavericks tallied an astounding 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. It occurred days after Embiid, the center for the Philadelphia 76ers, defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Monday and accumulated 70 points.
This NBA season, Dončić has averaged 33.6 points per game. Not only has he surpassed Embiid in scoring, but he has also surpassed both himself and the Mavericks. His 73-point performance is both a team and personal record. Prior to the gunfight on Friday, both of those benchmarks stood at 60.
Additionally, it positioned Dončić, 24, in fourth place among all players in NBA history with the highest-scoring contest.
In honor of the accomplishment, the Mavs appeared to have uploaded a photo of Doncic in his youth to X, where he was adorned in a modified rendition of his present apparel.
With 2:58 remaining in the game, Dončić, in his sixth season, converted a three-point attempt, thereby amassing a total of 70 for the evening. One more three-pointer sealed the deal and a 148-143 victory for the Mavs.
In terms of single-game scoring, Dončić is currently ranked fourth, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain, who established the record with 100 points in 1962 and also finished in third place with 78 points scored in 1961, and Kobe Bryant, who finished in second place with 81 points in 2006.
In addition to Dončić, two other athletes have surpassed the milestone of 73 points in a single game: Chamberlain, in 1962, accomplished this feat twice, and David Thompson, in 1978, accomplished the same.
