The Lakers lacked effort in a tough loss to the Rockets

The Los Angeles Lakers won an exciting game in double overtime to start their six-game road trip. The following night, they played the first game of a back-to-back set in Houston, Texas.

The Lakers were blown out by the Rockets, 135–119. It looked like they were tired after beating the Golden State Warriors.

After hitting a few jump shots to start the game, D’Angelo Russell kept it up. The Rockets quickly took the lead, though (15–8). A short time ago, the Lakers were down by 10 points. But Anthony Davis led a 7-0 run in the middle of the first that made it 22–17.

When Russell made his second three, Los Angeles took their first lead of the night. This came after Jabari Smith Jr. made a couple of layups. It didn’t last long, though. When Cam Whitmore made a few transition dunks, Rockets fans stood up and cheered. Texas went on a run at the end of the first quarter, leaving the Lakers behind 42–31 at the start of the second.

Vanderbilt punched Brooks and touched him, which got Vanderbilt kicked out of the game. Brooks hit Vanderbilt on a dunk. Texas was able to score easily, and Los Angeles’ defense started to break down. They fell behind by as many as 21 points.

James and Davis went to the basket and made a few small points to try to get the Lakers back in the game. However, Los Angeles was still behind at halftime, 78–60, even though they were able to get the game going. Brooks made back-to-back threes to end the second.

After a slow start, the Rockets went on a 7-0 run that made the score 25–17 in favor of the Rockets. It got even worse when Houston went ahead by 30 points. Head coach Darvin Ham had to call a break.

They kept putting pressure on the team, but it was scary how little energy and hustle they had, even though they were down a lot. This made the score 108-84 at the end of the third. Los Angeles scored a lot of points to cut the lead to 21.

James stayed in the game to begin the fourth and made his first three-point shot of the night. He helped start a 10-point run that was stopped by a Brooks three-pointer.

James looked mad that Brooks had shot at him. After that, he was also rougher with the ball. Before the Lakers could score another run, the Rockets scored one more, ending their chances of coming back.
