The Los Angeles Lakers’ star player, LeBron James, has chosen not to get another ring. But that doesn’t mean he won’t get any pretty things.
A high-end jeweller named Eliantte made King James a one-of-a-kind chain with an iced-out gem to honour the fact that he is the NBA’s all-time points leader.
The pendant is made of diamonds and looks like a big lion’s head with the Nike “crown” logo that is on all of his shoes.
On the back of the piece, there is a story about James’s time in the NBA. It talks about the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Lakers, the three teams he played for.
To honour the fact that he beat Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the player with the most points, the Lakers and the NBA gave James this chain. LeBron showed off the chain on his Instagram story and thanked Eliantte and the Lakers for the gift.
The record had been held by Abdul-Jabbar for 34 years. On February 7, he broke it with a great game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Los Angeles.
Abdul-Jabbar set the mark for most points scored in a season in 1989 with 38,387. James had to score 36 points against OKC to break it.
The 38-year-old broke the record with a classic fadeaway shot with 11:09 left in the third quarter. And in the end, they lost 133–130. He scored 38 points, grabbed seven boards, and passed the ball three times.
James, on the other hand, doesn’t look like he’ll be getting a new ring any time soon.
James can’t play because he hurt his right foot. The team said he’ll be out for “a good amount of time.”
Shams Charania, a source close to the NBA, says that the injury will be checked out again in three weeks. However, it’s possible that he will still need more time to heal.
The Lakers are having a hard time without him, though. With a record of 32–34, they are just barely in the running for the NBA playoffs. The New Orleans Pelicans, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Portland Trail Blazers are all ahead of them by half a game. They are ninth in the Western Conference.
