This is the third straight win for the Los Angeles Lakers. They beat the Charlotte Hornets 124–118 on Monday night. Antony Davis had 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists, which was his third career triple-double. D’Angelo Russell scored 28 points.
The Lakers (27-25) finished their road trip with a 4-2 record thanks to LeBron James’ 26 points. They got some much-needed momentum before the All-Star break.
The Hornets have lost eight games in a row since moving Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat. Miles Bridges scored 41 points, which was the most in his career. Brandon Miller, a young player, scored 33 points with five 3-pointers.
Through 22 points from Russell and 17 points from James, the Lakers were ahead 74–58 at the break. In the first half, they made 64% of their shots.
Getting past P.J. Washington and dunk over 7-foot centre Nick Richards were two of James’ best plays in the first half. James drove to the corner again and slammed into Anthony Davis with both hands while the ball was still in the air. He also set Davis up for a dunk through the hole.
The Lakers passed the ball 36 times.
Late in the third quarter, Christian Wood made a three-pointer and then dunk a pass from Austin Reaves, which made the score 21–1.
They were behind by a game, though, after Miller scored 16 points in the fourth quarter. There were about two minutes left when the second-highest pick in the draft blocked a pass from Reaves and dunk it across the court. Then he made two three-pointers in a row to cut the Lakers’ lead to four points.
Davis blocked Bridges’ three-point shot, which would have tied the game for Charlotte. Reaves then made two free throws to make it 6-0 and seal the win.
Bridges made 16 of 26 shots from the field and five three-pointers.
