The Milwaukee Bucks were blown out by the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Thursday night, 129–105.
The lopsided defeat resulted in some increased minutes for members of the Bucks’ bench, including Thanasis Antetokounmpo, the brother of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Thanasis prepared to check into the game midway through the fourth quarter with Milwaukee trailing by 23, prompting a ruthless remark from analyst Jim Petersen, who considered Thanasis subbing into the game to a sign of surrender from the Bucks.
“The white flag is being waved,” said Petersen.
“Because Thanasis is getting ready to come into the game,” said Petersen when asked to explain his comment
According to Petersen, Thanasis’s entry into Thursday’s game suggested that Milwaukee was ready to trot out the end of their bench for the remainder of the game and had given up on making a comeback. And he didn’t think twice to express those opinions in real time on the radio.
Thanasis has only appeared in 19 of the Bucks’ 52 games, averaging just 4.1 minutes per game, and was a healthy scratch in each of the team’s previous five games. In his five minutes on the court on Thursday, he scored two points and committed one personal foul.
