Austin Reave credits the Lakers for playing ‘the right way’ during the recent crunch

The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 138-122 in their last game before the All-Star break, which was a big win. Anthony Davis and Rui Hachimura scored the most points, and D’Angelo Russell had the most assists with 17. Austin Reaves also had a great night.

Reaves had a great night. He made 9 out of 13 shots from the field and 3 out of 5 from three-point range, scoring 22 points and adding 7 assists and 3 steals. The Lakers have been playing great lately, even without LeBron James. Reaves thinks it’s just because the team is playing hoops the right way (via Spectrum SportsNet):

“I believe we are following the right rules for the game.” It’s not important who gets the extra pass that wins us the game. It’s a different person every night if you play the right way. Austin Reaves' rookie season was a surprise. Here's how he plans to make the encore even better - The Athletic
The Lakers moved the ball very well again, this time with 34 assists. This helped them hit 57.1% from the field and 45.2% from 3-point range. Another thing Reaves said was that the Lakers’ recent Grammy road trip had given them more offensive confidence and energy:

“I believe it’s a mix of various things.” They are learning to play together and get into a rhythm. When we got off the road in Boston and New York, I think it gave us a lot of energy. But I think it’s time and a sign of how good our guys are. Austin Reaves: The Underdog to FIBA Rising Star - Last Word On Basketball
It looks like things are finally coming together for the Lakers. The Jazz aren’t the best team, but this was still a very risky game for the Lakers. This was the Lakers’ last game before the All-Star break. It was on the road and the second night of a back-to-back without James. It could have been a bad loss for them. But Reaves praised the team for working together and taking charge:

“When the game was over, I told everyone what a great win it was.” Yesterday, we didn’t get here until 3:30. We had two games in a row, and the second one was against a young, tough team. There’s no stopping them, no matter what part of the game it is. With Bron out, it’s hard to get a win like that, since he’s a big part of what we do. To be fair, I thought we stuck to our plan and played the game the right way. We never pushed too hard. With AD and Rui playing and scoring the way they did, and with everyone else doing well, I know it was a good game. Lakers: Austin Reaves is set to prove growth in his game is no fluke - Silver Screen and Roll
Once the Lakers get back from the All-Star break, it will be important for them to keep building on this energy. As long as they stay fit and keep playing this well, they might make it to the playoffs again.
