Even though Victor Wembanyama scored an amazing “5×5”, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs 123–118 on Friday night. LeBron James scored 30 points, passed the ball nine times, and grabbed seven rebounds. They had their seventh win in nine games.
The first game of his trip was against the Lakers. He scored 27 points, got 10 rebounds, and passed the ball eight times. Five shots were blocked, and five balls were stolen. He was the youngest player in NBA history to have at least five points, five rebounds, five assists, five blocks, and five steals in the same game, and he was only the 15th player in NBA history to do so.
James told Wembanyama, “He doesn’t have a ceiling.” “He’s free to choose what he wants to do with his job.” It looks like he enjoys the game. From the outside, it looks like he works hard. Just remember that I told you a long time ago how great he was.
On Thursday night in Sacramento, Wembanyama was one assist away from a 5×5 game. It took him 30 minutes and 55 seconds to make it the next night in Los Angeles. That’s the shortest amount of time ever used in a 5×5 game in league history.
Michael Jordan is the only other player who has had at least five steals and five blocks in a row.
This player thought, “I wonder if (Jordan) did it with wins instead of losses.” “It doesn’t bother me.” We could see this as a good effort in the long run, but I can’t be happy about losing right now.
In the first quarter, Wembanyama played very well and scored 16 points. However, Anthony Davis played very well in the next two quarters, which helped the Lakers keep their lead.
In the first game of a back-to-back set, Davis scored 28 points and grabbed 13 boards. After that, he didn’t play in the fourth quarter of the second game. Jaxson Hayes did a good job against Wembanyama in his place, and James led the Lakers to their 12th win in 18 games.
Lakers coach Darvin Ham said that James had some good stretches and some bad stretches. But he stepped up and made plays or goals when the team needed him to. Things get a little crazy after the All-Star break. The guys are still trying to get back to where they were, but I thought James played well.
With 17 goals in a row in the last 3 1/2 minutes, San Antonio cut the score by a big amount.
D’Angelo Russell scored 22 points and had six assists on his 28th birthday. For the Lakers, Rui Hachimura scored 17 points. They have been on a tear lately, but they are still ninth in the Western Conference standings. The Lakers lost to Golden State on Thursday after the All-Star break.
After sitting out the last two Lakers games to rest his sore ankle, James came back strong. He played in the All-Star Game at that time.
James stated, “I can’t tell you how we’re going to be every single day.” We only have work to do. We do things the right way when it comes to defense. We keep moving the ball around to attack. Protect the ball, come back into the game after a short break, and clean the glass when teams miss. That way, we can win every night.
Wembanyama had never played in front of the Lakers’ wall of championship trophies before. He had a great start. In the first six minutes of the game, he scored 13 points, grabbed three boards, and got Davis to foul him twice. He had 20 points before the break, but he only made 2 of 6 shots after it.
The Spurs have lost three straight games and ten of their last eleven. The other player, Jeremy Sochan, had 15 points and 13 boards. Malaki Branham got 17 points. They’ve lost all six of their Rodeo Road Trip games this year.
The last time these two teams played was in December. Since then, San Antonio has won 18 straight games, which is Club Record.
