Warriors Dominate Hornets, Securing 8th Victory in 9 Games

Throughout the season, the Golden State Warriors have shown incredible offensive play even in defeat. They were content with an ugly victory on Friday night.

In a game where both teams struggled to shoot the ball for extended periods of time, Golden State upset the Charlotte Hornets, 97-84. or even hold on to it. In a game where they struggled offensively but easily won the first three quarters by seven points apiece, the Warriors restricted Charlotte to 29 points in the first half and just 52 points through three quarters.

Following a lacklustre first half, the Warriors easily defeated the Hornets with a 30-point third quarter that featured a magnificent pass from Steph Curry to Moses Moody.

Curry shot 3-for-11 from three-point range and 5-for-14 with five assists on a typical off-night for him when he plays his brother Seth. But Seth only managed six, so the hierarchy between the Curry brothers is still in place. In the regular season, Steph is now 10-4 versus his brother.

Even so, he was able to seal the victory with his last three-pointer, killing any last vestiges of hope for the Hornets with a bomb to put the Warriors ahead by 18 with under five minutes remaining.

After a difficult shooting night on Thursday, Steph’s Splash Brother rebounded with 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting. As part of the Warriors’ 44 bench points, Klay Thompson, in his new bench role with the Dubs, equaled Curry with three triples.

The Warriors didn’t have a player score in double figures until the third quarter, and Gary Payton II was their standout in the first half with eight points. Seth Curry was taken down by GPII, who also displayed some inventive headwear made of towels.

The Warriors have won eight of their last nine games and 10 of their last twelve, demonstrating that their amazing run hasn’t slowed down even with the All-Star break. It was a run that could have been even more dominant. The last four games Golden State has lost have been by one point against the Sacramento Kings, one possession in the final minute of an overtime loss against the Atlanta Hawks, a double-overtime loss against the Los Angeles Lakers, and a five-point loss against the Clippers.

This one felt at first like it might be a trap game. Despite having no chance of making the playoffs, the 14-41 Hornets have won four straight games since a string of deals changed their roster. Thankfully, Charlotte also started off poorly and gave up easy baskets to the Warriors. Charlotte displayed play that was well below what the Warriors could hit, despite their best efforts to play down to the opposition.

Charlotte shot 11–39 from beyond the arc and committed 18 turnovers. The Warriors appeared to be giving uncontested corner threes at times, and the Hornets continued to miss them. Tre Mann went 3-9, rookie Brandon Miller went 4-14, and only Miles Bridges, who is still awaiting a hearing on a domestic abuse accusation, showed any effectiveness at all with 19 points.

This season, 84 points is undoubtedly the lowest point total scored by a team against the Warriors. Draymond Green, who had two blocks, a steal, and thirteen rebounds, was a major contributor to it. Despite only scoring six points, Jonathan Kuminga was effective in every other area. Incredibly, he had six assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.

For the second straight game, the Warriors considerably (53-43) outrebounded a much larger opponent. Rookie Brandin Podziemski, who finished with 13 points, six assists, and six rebounds, did a great job on the boards. To Green’s glee, he totally dropped Vasilije Micic and nailed a jumper to close the third quarter. That was his high point.

With Trayce Jackson-Davis, another rookie, contributing eight rebounds in his 14 minutes, the Warriors have unexpectedly developed into a very competitive rebounding team. Andrew Wiggins, who is 29 years old, scored 14 points in just eight incredibly effective shots!

Guys, shoot the birthday boy more times!

As Lester Quinones made a layup rather than fouling the shot clock, the Hornets were agitated in the closing seconds of the game. Miles Bridges shown that he does more than simply push and shove his children’s mother when he approached Quinones after blocking the attempt.

Next, Grant Williams, who scored 4.2 points on average during Boston’s 2022 Finals defeat against Golden State, intervened. He and Quinones exchanged snide remarks, with Quinones specifically criticising the new Hornets forward. Let’s just say that there is one term in particular that Too Short adores.

Bridges received a technical foul, the referees blew the whistle, and Quinones and Williams were expelled. Look, Steve Clifford didn’t pull his starters, which is something you have to do if you want the opposing team to quit playing before the game is over. Additionally, don’t base what constitutes a proper physical altercation on MILES BRIDGES.

Stephen Curry and Seth Curry

During the event, Kenny Atkinson, the assistant coach for the Warriors, demonstrated his brilliance by putting his iPad over the baseline camera. The rule “no snitching” also applies to cameras.

The Warriors then play an early Sunday game against the Denver Nuggets, the reigning champions, to cap off their homestand. As good as Denver is, the Warriors are really good. This game is significant in the latter third of the season, which is full with big games. Thus far, they are surviving.
