IMPRESSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Luka Doncic finished with 33 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds for the Mavericks who still couldn’t overcome the Pacer

On Sunday night, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Dallas Mavericks 133-111. Myles Turner led the team with 33 points, Tyrese Haliburton chipped in with 17 and 10 assists, and the victory snapped Dallas’ seven-game winning run, which was the best in the Western Conference.

As former Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle put it, “The whole game for us was about our edge, our competitiveness.” Carlisle now coaches the Pacers. We aimed to play aggressively without worrying about the score. Playing a Dallas club is never going to be a picnic.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Pacers took a 120-102 lead thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers by Andrew Nembhard and Haliburton. In the last session, Dallas came within four points, but they ended up behind by 22 points.

“You have to give them credit,” commented Dallas coach Jason Kidd. A number of rounds were fired. We will take it as a lesson. Our season-low assist total was 15. We were having trouble driving because of Haliburton. Turner, he manages to get himself at the 3-point line or the very top of the key. We need to step it up because he was very forthcoming.

Indiana has won three games in a row to strengthen its precarious hold on sixth place in the East. Nembhard and Ben Sheppard scored 15 points each for the Hoosiers. Additionally, Bennedict Mathurin contributed 14 points, 11 boards, and 5 assists.

Despite facing the league’s leading scorer in the first half, Doncic—who currently ranks first in points per game—scored just 25. As a team, Indiana averaged 123.8 points per contest.

After a scoreless first half, Indiana took a 67-60 lead into halftime. Neither team led by more than eight points. When the first quarter came to a close, the score was 32–32. In the fourth quarter, the Pacers led by 100 points to 91.

“We took a defensive stance,” Turner stated. Over there, they have got a real skill. There are 24 games remaining for us to try and get some additional points.

With Aaron Nesmith out with a sprained right ankle, the Hoosiers were without their starting wing, who scored an average of 12.6 points per game.

Dante Exum, a Mavericks reserve guard who averages 9.2 points per game, will return to the lineup Tuesday after sitting out a month due to knee bursitis.
