Nikola Jokić might not be genuinely upset with his Denver Nuggets crew, but he didn’t shy away from playfully throwing them under the bus for dropping the ball on his birthday over the All-Star break.
“Nothing,” Jokić deadpanned when probed about his teammates’ birthday gift. “Absolutely nothing.”
“Bad teammates. Bad teammates. … Terrible teammates.”
Jokić, who turned 29 on February 19, didn’t let the absence of gifts have an impact on his performance on the court. In Denver’s decisive 119–103 victory over the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center, he disheveled out a staggering 16 assists.
His teammates now have a whole year to consider what kind of present to give him for his big 3-0 in February. Given that horses are the two-time NBA MVP’s greatest off-court hobby, perhaps something pertaining to horses would be a good wager.
