The Los Angeles Lakers appeared to be headed for their third straight defeat as they trailed the Los Angeles Clippers by 19 points entering the fourth quarter of their game. However, LeBron James then turned on a light, allowing Anthony Davis and the Lakers’ other players to watch a truly masterful performance.
LeBron scored 19 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, surpassing the Clippers in scoring on his own as the Lakers rallied for a thrilling 116–112 victory. After the game, James was undoubtedly the talk of the town, but Davis also gave credit to the defense, especially the unit that started the fourth quarter, for the comeback.
In response to a question about how the Lakers returned, Davis said, “Get stops.” “Bron went into his little sicko mode and scored 40 points in a row, but all we needed to do to win was get stops. They led by 21 points after Norm’s 3-pointer, but we were able to get under control with the team that opened the fourth quarter—Jaxson, Bron, Cam, and TP—who were able to start us off defensively and score 35 or 36 points in the first six minutes.
In the fourth quarter, they kind of set the tone for us, and despite Bron’s scoring, we never gave up, stayed united, and remained resilient. Then men entered and made some huge shots. With his outstanding performance in the fourth quarter and his demise, Rui, DLo, and Bron. We simply needed to move forward and take shots.
When it came to defense, the Lakers delivered, limiting the Clippers to only 16 points on 41.2% shooting in the fourth quarter. Davis was grateful for the Lakers’ victory even though they were aiming to move up the standings, and he also liked being able to see LeBron’s run.
“Just a huge victory for us,” Davis continued. We didn’t want to lose two straight since there are teams in front of us and we’re attempting to move up in the standings. There are moments when you get to watch greatness happen while sitting on the bench. And for many of us tonight, that was the situation. I admit, Bron, that I was watching just out of admiration for what he was capable of.
“How wonderful the squad was playing to begin the fourth quarter, though, was another story. As AR and I were about to step in, we told Coach to let him take it easy and let them go. Then, when Bron threw that turnover because he was a little weary, we said, “Okay, time to get back in.” However, you undoubtedly win me over.
Since LeBron and Davis have been teammates for five seasons, the big man has witnessed many incredible performances, and this one was just another. Nevertheless, Davis acknowledged having a fanboy moment this evening despite having seen so many.
“I was on the floor during his passes, and I was off the floor during his little stretch,” Davis remarked. “But I’ve known him for long enough—I’ve played with him for long enough—to witness those moments when he had them, and he is who he is. He is our team’s best basketball player and produces a tonne of plays. So it was a fanboy moment to watch it from the sidelines tonight.
Though it’s fantastic to see that LeBron can turn it up to the greatest level when necessary, perhaps the Lakers won’t constantly need these kinds of outbursts from him to win.
