With any luck, Anthony Davis will be able to get another job this week.
The six-time NBA All-Star has been in the news since he was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday. He is showing off his style and creativity with a unique collaboration that resulted in a pair of sneakers that look like a bag of potato chips.
Davis was in New York today to talk about his new deal with Frito-Lay’s Ruffles chip brand. He also showed off his brand-new shoes, The Ruffles Ridge Tops, which were made just for him by a custom cobbler called The Shoe Surgeon.
The first project of its kind, the “Chip Deal,” is being worked on together. Davis, who works with Nike and has “creative design input,” is taking his very first (no pun meant) big step into making shoes. He has already found some things he didn’t expect.
Davis told FN, “Sometimes you have these crazy ideas and you just want to throw it on a shoe. But sometimes it doesn’t work and they’re like, ‘You can’t put that on a shoe.'” “It didn’t make me mad, but it did open my eyes.” I told myself, “Man, I can’t do that.” We found some things that worked and got rid of some heat in the end.
Each pair of Ruffles Ridge Tops trainers was made by hand and is the same blue and orange colour as the original Ruffles bag. Each flavour of Ruffles has a shoelace that is a different colour to match.
Near the heel of the shoe, there is a hidden pocket with a silver interior and a ribbed finish that is meant to look like a Ruffles bag. The shape of the chip is also ribbed. On the tongue of the shoe, there is a list of “Shoetrition Facts” that talk about both the visible and the intangible parts of the shoe. This looks a lot like the list of nutrients on most food packages.
Davis was picked up by the NBA in 2012 after having a great college career at the University of Kentucky. He said that his style has “evolved tremendously” in the seven years since he started playing professional hoops.
“When I had my first job here right after college, I wore sweat suits.””Then I started getting invited to all these fancy events, where I had to wear suits and other classier, rowdier clothes,” he told FN. “Over time, that look got better and better as I worked on it.”
The “Dunk High,” the athlete’s “favourite Nike silhouette,” is where you can find Davis’s limited-edition collaboration with Ruffles. “I love wearing Nikes so much.” Davis said, “I’ve known this all my life.” “I’ve only worn that shoe when I played sports.” It seemed right to me.
People who buy a Ruffles bag and enter the code on the bag every day from June 24 to August 4 will have a chance to win fashion and sports items. The big prize is a pair of trainers made by Ruffles and Davis.
