The Golden State Warriors had a second chance to turn things around against the poorest club in the Western Conference, two days after suffering a heartbreaking defeat at home to the San Antonio Spurs. They pulled off a triumph, winning 112-102.
Even with brilliant rookie Victor Wembanyama making a comeback to the starting lineup and recording 27 points and 14 rebounds, the Spurs were unable to defeat the Dubs in back-to-back games. In their victory on Saturday, the Spurs mainly depended on their outstanding three-point shooting, but on Monday, they received a dose of their own medicine.
The Warriors finally found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter after San Antonio had the lead for the better part of the first half. The Warriors had made over half of their three-point shots at one point in the contest.
Klay Thompson was substituted for Brandin Podziemski in the starting lineup by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, and the change appeared to be beneficial. In Steph Curry’s absence, Chris Paul played a more comprehensive game, finishing with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Thompson also had twenty-one points.
In a game that he played a team-high 34 minutes, Podziemski did not let up after coming off the bench either, finishing with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. His +17 plus/minus was actually tied for second place with another rookie, Trayce Jackson-Davis, who finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and the best plus/minus of the game in just 26 minutes.
With a record of 34-30 for the season, the Warriors will continue their Texas road trip on Wednesday when they take on the Mavericks in Dallas.
