The Los Angeles Lakers had an opportunity to avenge their defeat at the hands of the Sacramento Kings a week prior when they traveled north for a crucial rematch.
The Lakers needed to defeat the Kings to increase their chances of moving up and better position themselves for the Play-In Tournament because the Western Conference standings are so close.
Rather, Los Angeles blew another opportunity to play Sacramento and lost their regular-season series.
Following yet another subpar effort against the Kings, Anthony Davis discussed the reasons why he and the team couldn’t win, as seen on Spectrum SportsNet:
“Our quarter ended with 17 points,” stated Davis. “We started the third quarter with a few early turnovers, and they were able to capitalize on some of our missed shots.” They were all extremely well from three, but Harrison Barnes’ shot was particularly good. We struggled to score, and our offensive rebounding was somewhat impacted by our turnovers. They typically scored a three whenever they had a rebound. It’s difficult since we give them easy points in transition or second chances since they are a formidable squad. It just makes things more difficult.
Davis also acknowledged that losing to Sacramento twice in a similar manner is frustrating:
“Especially after the last two games, it’s frustrating.” That was the game, right there. We had a horrible second quarter at our house. I believe we may have had 17 points in the third quarter tonight. I was unable to put the ball in the hoop after halftime. had difficult turnovers, particularly at the beginning of the third. They got a few easy looks, so they were down four fairly fast. I believe it went up to twelve or so. We only need to exit the half prepared to proceed. LeBron, DLo, and I all had trouble from the field, especially with shots close to the hoop in the opening half. You don’t want to hand this team any more points when you’re behind. It becomes far more difficult to defeat them when we allow extra points from offensive rebounds and turnovers.
The most annoying way for the Lakers to lose a game, according to Davis, is when they defeat themselves:
“It’s annoying to lose, especially when you let a team beat you due to your errors. As previously mentioned, a lot of turnovers, offensive rebounds, mishaps on defense, and poor defense communication. We didn’t play the right way and let a team defeat us; if they made shots and won, then congratulations to them. However, we can’t let a team defeat us because we don’t know what strategies work. Therefore, I believe that any kind of loss is quite upsetting.
When Davis and company play the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, they had better be more prepared since the Lakers can’t seem to get out of their own way.
