The Golden State Warriors’ home record this season is now.500 after a 123-111 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. The Dubs trailed 36-33 on the season despite leading for almost the whole first half and failing to send the Chase Center crowd home satisfied. They are now 2.5 games ahead of the Rockets and half a game behind the Lakers for the ninth spot in the Western Conference.
Both teams got off to a fast attacking start. Each team scored 38 points in the first quarter while committing only three turnovers and making more than half of their two-point and three-point attempts from within the arc. Indiana was spearheaded by Pacers studs Pascal Siakam and Tyrese Haliburton, but Steph Curry and Brandin Podziemski, the starting backcourt for the Warriors, were unstoppable. Podziemski scored 8 points on 3-for-4 shooting (2-for-3 from three) and Curry finished the quarter 5-for-6 from the field (3-for-4 from three).
The starting backcourt for the Dubs cooled down in the second quarter, but Klay Thompson, the Splash Brother off the bench, caught fire and helped the team take a double-digit lead. But in the last four minutes of the first half, the Warriors managed just three points, which allowed the Pacers to narrow the margin to 67-66 at the break.
Indiana extended its lead early in the third quarter. The Pacers took an early 11-0 lead and would go on to build the lead to 17. The Warriors were able to reduce their deficit to single digits in the fourth quarter, but they were never able to get closer than five points.
Along with 11 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks, and a game-best +25 plus/minus, Haliburton scored a game-high 26 points. Siakam finished with 16 rebounds, 6 assists, and 25 points. Along with five rebounds, five assists, and a highly effective 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting, Pacers starting shooting guard Andrew Nembhard also had a great day.
With 11 rebounds and 25 points, Curry led the Warriors. However, he only shot 9 of 24 from the field (6 of 18 from three). On the team, no other player scored more than thirteen points.
The Warriors will embark on a road trip this weekend following their Friday night visit of the Pacers. On Sunday, Golden State will play the 47-22 Timberwolves in Minnesota. The first tip off is set for 4:00 PM Pacific time.
