The Bucks held onto second place in the Eastern Conference and increased their lead over Cleveland to two games. The loss snapped Atlanta’s four-game winning streak, and the Hawks are now one game behind Chicago in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.
With the victory, Milwaukee now leads the season series 2-1. Throughout the three games versus Atlanta, Antetokounmpo finished with a total of 94 points and 38 rebounds.
Along with Khris Middleton’s 21 points, Patrick Beverly (who started in place of Damian Lillard due to personal reasons) contributed 18 points for Milwaukee (47-27).
With 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Dejounte Murray led Atlanta (34–40). Murray also pulled down eight rebounds and scored 20 points.
With 12 points from Middleton and a 59.1% shooting percentage in the first quarter, the Bucks led 33–28 going into the second. Milwaukee led by as much as eighteen points and had a 59-45 advantage at the break after shooting 51.2 percent for the half. 15 goals were scored by Antetokounmpo in the first 24 minutes.
Milwaukee led 89-74 entering the fourth quarter, when Atlanta tied the score, having led by as many as 21 points in the third. With 7:44 left, De’Andre Hunter and Bogdanovic each made a back-to-back 3-pointer to trim the advantage to 94-89.
The Bucks took a timeout and came back with three points from Brook Lopez, a steal from Beverly, and a basket by Middleton to take an 11-point lead back. For the remainder of the game, Atlanta never drew closer than seven points.
Damian Lillard, the point guard for Milwaukee, was held out for private reasons. Without Lillard, the Bucks had a 0–5 record this year.
Lillard’s health is questionable for Tuesday night’s Bucks game in Washington.
Onyeka Okongwu (left big toe strain) and Jalen Johnson (right ankle) were out for the Hawks once more, which made the already challenging task of stopping Antetokounmpo much more harder. Another fixture in Atlanta’s lineup when healthy, forward Saddiq Bey underwent season-ending knee surgery this week.
Trae Young, an All-Star point guard for Atlanta, has missed 18 straight games due to a finger injury. The Hawks, who trail No. 9 Chicago in the East by one game, will likely have two weeks to get their injured players back in the lineup before playing in the play-in round.
On Monday, the Hawks travel to Chicago. The Bucks play Washington on Tuesday to wrap off their three-game road trip.
