Before playing the Houston Rockets on Sunday, who are the only team in the league with a longer winning streak than Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, the team has won nine of their previous ten games and six of their previous 10.

Houston was no match for Doncic and the Rockets, despite their recent amazing play. Luka had another tremendous night, scoring 47 points on 18 of 28 shots, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out seven assists. Even though Houston managed a strong defensive possession, Doncic’s all-out effort was insufficient to prevent Luka from scoring.

Doncic got into trouble early in the third quarter as he picked up his dribble against Jabari Smith Jr. as the shot clock was running out. To the dismay of the Rockets (and delight of Doncic), he instead stepped through under Smith’s arm and made a scooping 20-footer that found nothing but net as the Houston forward rushed him to take away any chance to get up a jump shot.

Doncic laughed at his own ridiculous shot-making and could not help but smile as he jogged back down the court. Nobody enjoys clowning an opponent more than Doncic. Unbelievably, Doncic’s final pregame warm-up shot may not have been his most spectacular of the evening as he banked a shot off the Jumbotron and into the basket.

Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who scored the most amazing game-winning basket against Denver this year, give Dallas the upper hand in the guard market when it comes to players who can make absurd shots. They may also be among the most formidable teams in the West as the playoffs approach.
