On June 29, Nike released the first pair of shoes and clothing featuring Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s signature.
The primary logo of Antetokounmpo “becomes fodder for an elegant, emotive trim that channels the most exuberant of European luxury sportswear,” according to Nike, for his signature short. The main logo is used on his tank top “as an emboss motif across the back.” His track jacket’s pockets are punctuated with the Greek flag “34.”
His family’s journey from Nigeria to Greece and then from Athens to Milwaukee is depicted in the shoe and clothing designs.
In November 2017, Antetokounmpo began meeting with Nike to discuss the creation of his debut signature shoe.
Under the heel of the shoe are double-stacked Zoom Air units, which are intended to provide a compromise between cushioning and responsiveness.
The phrase “I AM MY FATHER’S LEGACY” is engraved on the outsole.
The primary Antetokounmpo insignia, an intertwined “G” and “A” that grants the family name hierarchical privilege, is featured on the shoe.
The rubber clip that runs from the outsole up to the midsole of the shoe was intended to provide lateral stability.
The first basketball player from outside of the United States to have a signature sneaker with Nike is Antetokounmpo.
