After the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Denver Nuggets last night (4/4), Russell Westbrook was asked by NBA reporter Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints about Nikola Jokic‘s triple-double skills.
“Well listen, ain’t nobody like me,” Russell Westbrook told ClutchPoints when asked about fellow triple-double monster Nikola Jokic.
“Ain’t nobody like me. We’re gonna stop that right there. Nobody like me. Nikola is a hell of a player, but he’s not me, I’m not him. Obviously, he’s won MVP twice, maybe once, a tough guard, excellent passer, knows how to play the right way, competes hard. Tonight, we got the best of him.”
Despite the glowing answer about the himself versus the league’s two-time MVP, who also has the potential to win his third this year, Westbrook followed it up for even more praise for Nikola Jokic.
“High IQ. Very, very high. Knows how to play the game very well, knows where guys are gonna be. He does a good job of playing with great pace, especially against us.”
Nikola Jokic saw opportunities for the Nuggets to grab control of the game, but were never able to. The 17-point first quarter lead was quickly squandered and Denver never led in the second half.
“They’re a talented team,” Nikola Jokic said of the Clippers. “They’re a talented group of people and they know what they have to do. We had the lead in the first quarter and the. It was just like a detail and little things. I think we had opportunities to win the game, we just didn’t take it.”
Westbrook is first in NBA history with 198 triple-doubles. He’s averaged a triple-double for an entire season four times.
